The assembly of nuts’ shells, pumpkin bits, metal rings or seashells for creating jingles is very usual in Africa. Dancers tie them around their legs or arms, or they fasten them to their dresses. Body movements while dancing cause the jingle elements to knock together, making a noise that is useful for setting the rhythm, and sometimes it’s their only musical accompaniment.
Currently, jingles still keep a magical function at tribal communities.
